Summary: An interesting turn of events for the ladies of the SGC....

"Nice waddle ya got there, Carter." The look on her face would have been amusing if it weren't for that fact that I thought she was serious in her intent to kill.

For all that this was fun, making fun of Sam like this just seems wrong in some way. I think it's great that she's decided to do this in order to help out a race of people. It's an awesome task to take on, and I don't know of anyone else who would sacrifice so much for a new race of people we've met.

It's so hard to see my second in command so different from her usual self. Not that the last nine months haven't been great. I mean, til we agreed that she shouldn't be 'Gate jumping any more, it was a hoot to see her go green and litter Daniel or Teal'c's shoes in the morning. Who knew the human body could produce so much in the morning on an empty stomach?

"Hey! Carter! Why don't you let me get that? You and the Doc could use a break." I jumped up to help her with the dishes from dinner that were still on the patio table.

"No, Sir. That's ok... If I don't keep moving, my feet swell and make my toes look like little sausages." Sam smiled at him. "And trust me... that's not a pretty sight!"

"Com'on, Carter. Will you and the Doc, just this once, let me and Daniel help you out?"

She paused for a moment and thought about it. Running a hand over her abdomen, she contemplated it. "Well..." She gasped. "Oh! That was a strong one!"

"What was?" I was concerned. Was it time already? Is this it?

"Just a kick." Sam's face scrunched up. "Junior's been a little active lately... and getting stronger by the day." Her hand pressed against her hugely swollen belly. "It should be soon though."

I stood to take the dishes from her hand before she dropped them. "Carter... please... I am nervous enough about having you and Janet both doing this... and so close together... Promise me something?"

"What, Sir?" She asked as she followed me into Janet's house and kitchen, albeit at a much slower pace.

I watched as she waddled more than walked and kept a hand on her lower back. "That you two don't go into labor at the same time."

"Sir, if we had a choice in the matter, I am sure that we would give the SGC's medical teams ample time to prepare between births. But don't forget, there are several others that volunteered to do this."

"I know... but the ladies of the SGC have the hardest jobs... What did the guys do? Go to the bathroom, grab a little reading material and were finished in a few minutes." I chuckled. "Some of us a few more minutes than others." Sam rolled her eyes at this. "Well... not that I am bragging or anything."

"Sure, Sir. I'll believe it this time... I think I am gonna go see what Janet is up to."

"Oh, about five foot two and out to here?" I waved my hands about two feet from my own flat abdomen.

"Funny, Sir... OH so funny...." She muttered as she went in search of the Doc.

I went in search of the woman who had willingly helped the people of the planet Demetriant in the same manner as myself. The love I felt for her had grown with each passing day as the pregnancy blossomed on us both.

"He-ey." Comes softly from the couch in front of me.

My love has settled herself on the couch with the remote in her hand. Feet propped up, surrounded by pillows, she looked like the picture of health.

"Hey, yourself. How are you tonight?"

"Honestly? I am exhausted... And if my precious little one doesn't get their feet out of my diaphragm, I am not going to be able to do much of anything else besides lay here on the couch..."

"Tell me about it..." I waddled over to the rocking chair to sit down. "Junior here seems to think that playing soccer in my tummy is a WONDERFUL idea..." Easing my body into the comfort of the chair, I continued. "Not too much longer and we'll be having these kids... How are the other surrogate moms doing?"

"Everyone is doing good, though there's going to be a sudden population explosion within the next two weeks."

"Everyone is due in that time?"

Janet nods in response to this question as she absent mindedly flips through the channels on the television. "Well, what did you expect? All the volunteers came forward at about the same time and all of them were... ripe."

I groaned at Janet's choice of word. "That was bad..."

"I know... Just couldn't pull any other word out of my mind for it..." Her brown eyes sparkled as she laughed.

"It's good to know that the only thing that hasn't been affected by this pregnancy, is your sense of humor."

"What do you mean?"

I laughed. "You mean the fact that you're attention span has been cut in half, you seem to lose things quicker than you pick them up.... Uhm... what else?"

"Now listen here, little missy..." She said pointing an accusing finger at me. "Who was the one that lost her car keys in her pocket and made us late for work on more than one occasion? Who almost blew up the microwave because she put something metal in it?"

Guilt flashed over my features as she listed off several of the things I had done in the last nine months. "Ok ok... but you have to admit... that sparking in the microwave was awesome!!"

"That's true." She started laughing. "Or how about the time that you left the travel mug on top of the car on the way to work?"

Laughter started to ripple its way through me. "Well... it certainly was at a drinkable temperature by the time we got there!"

"Oh! OH! And how about when I thought I hadn't put any soap in the washing machine... Twice! Gods, the mess I made that day!" Both of us were lost to a fit of the giggles as we recalled the foot of bubbles that escaped the laundry room and went into the kitchen.

I finished putting the dishes away as I heard the pair of them in the living room laughing like crazy. This was a side that I had never really seen in the duo. It was amazing what pregnancy could do to a woman. And in this pair, it had loosened them up and allowed them to laugh a little more often.

"What's so funny?" I asked of them as I saw them sitting there, tears streaming down their cheeks.

"We... we were just..." Sam started but lost it and waved to the Doc to finish.

"Talking about how... how forgetful we've gotten..."

I raised a brow at them. "Is THAT what you're calling it?" I said with a laugh as I recalled the times that Sam had gone searching through all her folders for a piece of paper that was right in front of her. Mission briefings had certainly gotten a lot easier to deal with the further along she had gotten.

"And," Sam snorted. "We're not the only ones... Nurse Chalmers and Tech Sgt. Dansoh too... I don't know how many times we've all been in the infirmary asking each other if this was normal. Four bright women who can't remember the simplest things!"

I smiled at them. "I should've been keeping notes on what you two have forgotten about... just to tease you with them later."

"Colonel! That wasn't nice!" The Doc lobbed a pillow my direction.

Easily catching it, I just looked her in the face, my expression dead-pan. "So have Nurse "Out For Blood" DeLuca give me a little payback!"

"You better believe I'll have her do it!" Said the Doc.

"And when you least expect it!"

"Oh... well... uhm..." I stuttered. Maybe I had gone too far? "I was just kidding... Honest!" I placed what I hoped was a penatent expression on my face.

"Sorry, Colonel. This is one thing I will not forget!"

Placing a hand to my chest, I gasped. "Doc! I'm shocked!"

"Sorry, Sir. You'll get your due."

I laughed. I mean, how could I be upset about her threat? Nurse DeLuca wasn't all that bad and I could handle her. Quickly checking my watch, I realized that it was getting late and these two needed their rest. "I have no doubts about that, Doc. But for now, we'll have to continue this little "threat" fest another time. I should let you two get some rest. Won't be too much longer and you'll be popping those kids out."

"Cute, Sir. So I take it Daniel lost the coin toss?"

"Yeah. He'll be back over in about half an hour to stay the night. I'll see you tomorrow at the base?"

The pair nodded.

"Ok. Have a good night you two."

Sam responded as I got to the front door. "We'll try, Sir. See you tomorrow."

I was sitting downstairs surfing through all the cable channels that Janet had, trying to find something of interest to watch when I heard a cry from upstairs. Sam and Janet had retired for the night and I had hoped for a peaceful night.

Ever since the two had volunteered to be mothers to infants that would be given to the people of Demetriant and found out that the procedure had worked, they had decided to share a home to always have someone around until the time came to deliver. Quickly, I shut off the TV and started on my way up the stairs.

"Janet? What's wrong?" I was honored that the pair felt safe enough to trust me with their secret of being lovers. So to find them in the same bedroom came as no surprise.

"Sam's water just broke, and her contractions are about seven minutes apart."

My eyes flew to Sam as she sat there on the edge of the bed breathing hard. "Why didn't you tell me you were in labor?" I hurried to her side.

"I don't know, Daniel. Because I thought it was just Junior kicking me harder than before?" She spoke with a bit of sarcasm as she looked down at her soaked pajamas. That pulled her up short from her sarcastic reverie. "Oh... man..." Embarrassment turned her face crimson.

"Sam, it's ok. I've seen worse, and been at the birth of several Abydonians, so this is nothing. Ok?" I tried to look her in the eyes. She wouldn't look at me, but only nodded her head.

"Janet, how long do we have?"

"Long enough for us to change and get her to the base." She ran a comforting hand over Sam's shoulder. "Let's get you changed and get you to the base. You're gonna do fine."

Sam only nodded and slowly stood. And made for the closet to pull out a fresh pair of pants to change into for the short trip.

OH MY GOD!! This pain is incredible! Why do women do this without pain killers? Why do *I* have to do this without pain killers?!?

"Janet, please...." I asked again as another contraction pulsed through my body.

"Sam, you know we talked about this.... When I did tests on some of the Demetriant people, they proved to be allergic to every pain med we have. And since this baby is fathered by one of them, I don't want to take the chance of it affecting the baby." Her soft brown eyes met mine as I made it through the contraction. "And it's too late to give it to you... You're ready to deliver now. On the next contraction, I want you to start pushing. Let's have this baby."

Easy for you to say at the moment, Hun.... You're not the one right now trying to push something the size of a watermelon out a hole the size of a-- "AAAAARRRRRGH!!!" Escaped from me as the next wave of pain started and the monitors started beeping loudly.

"This is it, Sam! PUSH!!!"

I started to push... trying with all my might to bring this child that I had carried for nine months, into the world. Pushing... pushing... pushing... When can I stop? When can I take a breather?

Com'on Junior... Help me a little here... com'on...

The alarms kept getting louder and louder...

What's wrong? What's happening? Janet? JANET?!?!

"JANET!" Sam sat straight up, fear in her eyes.

"What? What is it, Sam?" Janet looked to her lover as she was wild eyed and breathing heavily. Reaching across her, the brunette shut off the alarm clock. "Sam? Are you ok?"

Shaking herself, the blonde blinked a couple of times, trying to focus on where she was at. "I don't know... I must have been dreaming... I HAD to have been dreaming... "

"What were you dreaming about?"

Sam sighed and lay down again. "You're gonna think this is absolutely nuts."

Janet just looked to her and waited.

"I was dreaming that I was pregnant and in the middle of delivering the kid."

The brunette blinked in surprise. "You were what?"

"Pregnant."

"That's it, Sam. No more spicy food before bed."
