Sam and Daniel were headed towards the only place on the base that Daniel was nervous about going, and it was to do something that he was REALLY dreading to do in front of Sam.

"Tell me again why we need to do this? I thought that I was good enough at it."

"Daniel, you may think that you're good at it, but I'm going to make sure that you can do it even better."

"Can't you just say that I'm good at it? Do I really need to...." He paused and shrugged his shoulders. "You know, show you that I am?"

Sam grinned at him. "What are you nervous about? It's not like I haven't seen it done before you know."

"Well, I know, but for me... well..." He stammered.

"You've never done it when it's been closely observed by a team-mate. Is that what's wrong?"

He started to turn red. "I hate to say it, but yeah."

"But you know what they say.... Practice makes perfect."

"Can't I practice in private?"

"Well, you could, but I want to make sure that you know how to handle yourself."

"Isn't that what I've been doing all along? Handling myself?"

"Yes, I suppose. But this will make you so much better at it. And don't worry, I'll go easy on you."

"That's not what I'm worried about." He said sheepishly. "We're going to be out in the open, where anyone can see."

"That's never been a problem before... don't tell me that you're getting shy on me. You aren't, are you?" She asked while giving him a pointed look.

Running a hand through his hair and letting out a frustrated groan, Daniel looked her in the eye. "You're going to make me do this no matter how much I try to weasel my way out of it, aren't you?"

"Yeah. And wouldn't you rather it be me than someone you don't know?"

He shook his head in defeat as they arrived at their destination. "Let's get this over with." He said and pulled it out.

"That's a big one you've got there, Daniel." Sam said with a huge grin.

"Please don't look at me like that. You're going to make this even harder than it already is."

"It's certainly not my intention, but if that's the case, learning to do it with an audience watching will help you out in the long run."

"Sam." He said her name with a touch of exasperation in his voice.

"Ok, ok." She said while motioning with her hands for him to calm down. "Let's see what you can do with it."

Daniel sighed and adjusted his grip, trying to make it a smooth gesture as he'd been taught. Squeezing his hand around it, he jumped when it caused him pain.

"Owww. That doesn't feel right. It's almost too hard."

"Weren't you told that it should be?"

"Well, yeah, but...." The red that had colored his face earlier returned with a vengeance. Giving Sam a lop-sided grin, he continued. "I didn't think it could be this hard."

Sam came up behind him and reached around to help him. Placing her hand over his, she helped him hold it in a more comfortable position. Keeping her hand where it was, she instructed, "Aim over there," she pointed, "and let's see how well you do."

With her help, Daniel managed to squeeze out a shot. It even came close.

With a grin on her face, Sam felt Daniel breathe a sigh of relief.

"Now was that so bad?"

"I guess not." He said, a goofy grin lighting up his face.

"Good. Now that you know how to handle it, let's see if you can hit ten out of fifteen of those targets so we can get you certified on that new gun.
